Shit. One shift key has gone completely nuts.

Everything else seems to be working fine...

I think. No, wait, Shift is working again.

Oddly, now the key isn't working ltogether. The, eh key. Even the cpitl EH key.

Michel thinks this is becuse of loose wiring, which doesn't exctly inspire confidence right now. Cn I write eh novel entirely without the letter "eh?" I'm reminded of tht Crol Shields story bout the typewriter with the letter "e" not working...or ws it the "I" key? I cn't remember.

joy:

This is brilliant! Run with it. Write an entire short story about trying to write a short story without the letter a, and don't use the letter a.

Ha! I have a and you don't! Jealous?

Of course, you probably have an external mouse. I don't. It's maddening. There are six a's in this post.

ben:

I think just cme for moment there. ll these letter eh's just strted spurting sex-like, into the comments box nd I couldn't control them but they stopped. nd it doesn't work no more.

Like tht: sprk nd then fde.

Vowels for the poor, guv'nor?

ben:

How str_nge _nd desp_iring Christi_n Bok [sic]'s "Eunoi_" would h_ve been, h_d he no _ key. Im_gine: _ book _bout vowels where the first ch_pter w_s just full of _'s. Over _nd over.

I am following all of this with great interest. Please keep me informed with hourly briefs.

The atomic aaaaaaa flare-up will only come up if I hit the a without hiaaaaaaaaaa

the letter before t won't work at all, and the a goe_ in and out.

Needleth to thay, we're taking the novel to pen & paper for the duration of the evening, pending examination of the mechanithm by thuperior brainth - between the miththing "eth" key (and the rethulting lithp) & the completely random on-and-off quality of the letter "a."

joy:

This is so random. If you had a desktop you could just run out and buy a cheap keyboard, but sadly that's not the case ... What will you do? How will you cope? What is your long-term strategy?

joy:

It's a pity I have to go to work in a couple hours. I want to see this thing through to the end.

joy:

Hey Ben, do you have windows messenger?

ben:

I have MthN meththenger, if that workth...

I jutht finithhed watching Wonder Boyth, and now it'th time for Ruthmore while I thcribble out thtory thtuff.

ben:

There'th no long term coping thtrategy at the moment: jutht moment to moment. I backed up all my writing onto a memory thtick and dumped all my thongth and imageth onto my iPod for thafe keeping.

joy:

I'm impressed and pleased you've taken these precautions.

Off to work now. All the best. Don't hesitate to contact me on my mobile if you feel I could be of assistance.

ben:

Weird to think that you're off to work; late into the evening over here.

Max ith having a nervouth breakdown: "I wrote a hit play!...*phew*...and I'm in love with you."

Ekim:

Get a cheap keyboard and plug it into your evil machine.

ben:

Does this infernal thing work?sss
