except I think sci fi BLOWS.

BLOWS=bad? Blowing=bad? Hence, on your knees (if you please; I prefer them on the bed while I lean in between their legs) to give a blowjob=bad? Weak?

THIS IS THE OPPRESSOR'S LANGUAGE.

You're right, it IS the oppressor's language, but I've learned to stand my ground in these past few years. And, who's to say I was ever benign? ;)

Sing it, Cyster (sorry, pun too obvious to resist)...

Posted by: ben at December 14, 2005 7:34 PM

hahahahahahaha!!!!

oh, fuck, as far as puns go: that one zaps them all out of existence. :D

Posted by: caroline at December 14, 2005 7:49 PM

alternatively:

"Sing It, Cyster": a modern feminist dialectic deconstruction of the defective and viral as revolution in voice.

or something more clever. ;)

Ahem:

"I remember talking to this guy who'd been told he had throat cancer, but instead of panicking, he decided to treat the cancer cells as familiars. You know, like his animal allies? Totem cancer cells! It's brilliant! The cancer talks to him. It's stopped growing now and bonded to his vocal cords. There's some kind of new structure there. It takes control of his voice sometimes and describes other worlds or predicts the future. He's even got a name for it, Casper, the Benign Tumor."

(G. Morrison, the Invisibles. Ragged Robin speaking. I've heard reference to the same story in other places, mostly with the name as "Casper the Friendly Growth.")

Also, cf. Narcissa ("No, I'm not an American. I'm a nymphomaniac.") talking to her telepathic tapeworm, or imagine a woman in constant conversation with her uterine fibroid. Which would make for a good story.

Narcissa from Guy Maddin's Saddest Music in the World, like.

!!!!!!!!!

Well, now that fits into my day quite perfectly. Startling. THERE'S SOME KIND OF NEW STRUCTURE THERE: ahahaha!! Oh, Christ. It would make for a very good story--it would be so incredibly Atwoodian. I wonder if I could pull something like that off and still stick to my mostly realist style . . .hmmm . . .this could be interesting, in terms of process, ad perhaps end result. "So, mom, for Christmas, I wrote you this story. It encompasses the feminist dialectic at the cellular level, its references touch upon a pomo, tangible gen-x version of the Cassandra myth, and philosophises on Atwood's concept of the body as new ultimate ravaged structure and firsthand source--It’s called “Call Me Esther” . . . .thanks for paying for my university."

enjoy.

Posted by: caroline at December 14, 2005 9:51 PM

"Call me Estrus."

Posted by: ben at December 14, 2005 9:58 PM

that's exactly what the title references!! --what's in a name?!? ahah! it's TOO MUCH, Ben. oh the female body IS death, until death.

Posted by: caroline at December 14, 2005 10:02 PM

Meanwhile, much of the male of the species's behaviour can be traced back to the production of a certain fluid within a certain gland contained WITHIN OUR ASSES. Imagine walking around with that everyday. My god, I'm surprised more people aren't stricken with spontaneously ejaculated bursts of unintentional laughter at the thought! Our lives are a gross-out comedy starring Ben Stiller. And if we don't emit that particular fluid from that particular gland something like twenty-ones times a month, we're MORE PRONE TO CANCER.

Posted by: ben at December 14, 2005 10:07 PM

it's interesting, in one major, basic respect, the female body is divined with a natural regularity, rhythm, whereas the male body has to actively hunt for its own. It's a survival struggle for regularity, whereas the female's is a survival struggle against regularity. One more prehistoric dividing tally for the ages.

Wonder if constipation is more common amongst males than females. Research! I don't know why I want to research that. I don't. At all. Why?

When Michelle was living with me she pointed out I had a cycle same as her, but without the obvious warning signs and physical expressions like a period, so it was always erratic and confused, disoriented.

Michelle also holds a strong dislike for tampon commercials that make it look like women are supposed to be active and positive even during their periods, when they should take advantage of feeling like shit to slow down and such.

Posted by: ben at December 14, 2005 10:46 PM

I just have a dislike of tampons in general, also: of the TV, which is why I have reneged from watching it for eight months or so. don't you develop your own warning signs though? I mean, wouldn't that make sense--seeing as it IS your cycle or rhythm or whatever and there should be some sort of trumpeting, at least, to indicate it is coming on, whatever it is. ;)
