Here's a shotgun approach to blogging.
1. System upgrades, the entire movabletype system is now powered by a proper database, not a rinky-dink hackish file system. Sure, that's probably gibberish to most of the people reading this blog; rest assured it (and the corresponding use of the semi-colon) is a good thing.
2. I prefer colons made by glico to semi-colons.
3. Some blogs were dropped from the front page. Some blogs were deleted. I did ask before deleting any blogs. I did warn people that their blogs would be removed if they didn't keep updating. Anti-Blog and Megalomaniac are still operational, if their owners ever decide to do anything with them.
4. There is no number four.
4a. Classes are going well. I'm behind, but I know I'm behind, which is much better than last year, when I didn't realize that I was behind.
5. Work is frustrating, but we are making progress. I can't provide links yet, because we want to keep the new site out of the public eyes until the actual launch in November.
6. Have you heard the Canadian Brass play the Goldberg Variations? Holy shit, so beautiful.
7. I've been listening to the Glenn Gould recordings Glenn Gould A State Of Wonder (another Goldberg Variations recording -- fantastic), which is so different. The 3-CD set includes the recording from 1955, which is powerful and strong, with more emphasis on technique and empressario abilities. The second CD is a remastered version of a recording from 1981, which is more contemplative, slower and lyrical. Instead of showing off his virtuoso tallents, he retreats into the music and lets it shine. If you pick a copy of this recording, rip it onto a computer, and reorder the tracks, so you get each 1955 track followed by the corresponding 1981 track. The difference is amazing.
