Ok. Blog free-for-all time. Ask any question you want, I'll try my best to answer it.

Ask.

if i take 4 purple cucumbers and multiply it by a pair of cowboy boots, what colour should i paint my bedroom?

ben:

Can we have some Michael-bum pix?

Well... That's a very difficult question Shawna. First, you've got four cucumbers, which is more than one. You can't multiply "it" by a pair of cowboy boots, you'll have to multiply "them" by a pair of cowboy boots.

And we all know what happens when you multiply anything fallic by cowboy boots! Draq Queen Cow Boys!

They'd insist on painting the room paisley, but I think you should paint it plaid.

You can have some michael-bum pix, but the world can't. I just don't feel like sharing them.

Joy:

When will there be more Futurama?

Outlook uncertain, sayeth the magic 1000 ball:

To quote Moviehole.net - More Futurama on the way?

"The word around the campfire is that due to increasingly good sales on the Futurama? DVD sets and Video Game, Fox may be firing up the grill on another season of Matt Groening's show. "

I also found an episode guide for season five! I don't recognize any of the episodes listed. I thought I'd seen them all. Futurama - Episode Guide - TV Tome

ben:

What's the colour scheme of your dreams? Mine always end up looking like grainy Seventies television shows.

christian:

if you were to run the country (unlimited power, skip the part about democracy), who would you appoint to the offices of governor general, minister of finances & foreign affairs?

Ben: I don't ever remember there being any colour at all in my dreams. I think I dream in black+white, or at least in some sort of monochromatic colour nonsense.

Christian: I don't know much about national politics. John would be a senator. Ben, Joy, and Matt would be the Minister for Culture. Dan would be a good foreign affairs person.

K. From the "Greatest Canadians" list:

Environment Minister: David Suzuki
Governer General: Tommy Douglas
Parliamentary Jester: Don Cherry (he wouldn't be allowed to speak though)

When will my eBay purchase arrive?! I'm desperately excited!!

(it's an attachment!)

What's the meaning of life?

mrAshley: After the next full moon that occurs on a Tuesday. Do you know where your jacket is?

majeric: Aristotole would ask why you want to know the meaning of life. Kant would tell you that you can figure it out only if you don't know the question you're trying to answer. Douglas Adams would say 42, but what was the question? I say that it is to eat, drink, and be merry. The real question is, What is the meaning of life to you?

Does Bill Gates wear women's underwear?

Will Firefox ever displace IE as the market leader?

Will web technology ever advance to the point where the browser displaces the rich client as the dominant development platform?

Clifford's Mojo:

I don't know. If he does, his wife probably knows about it and is ok with it.

No. IE is installed by default, and most lusers are lazy. Firefox will make a huge gain though.

I think really depends on how the browser evolves over time, and how much authority is given to browser scripting languages live JavaScript. For example, it will be more likely when javascript can detect a window closing, and ask, "would you like to save your work first?" And it will also depend on bandwidth usage. Sure, tools like X11 and other unixy window servers make things possible but they are big and bulky and difficult to set up properly. They also consume huge amounts of bandwidth just to display windows and provide user interaction. The lag time using remote displays like that is far too large. Sorry Tim Bray, we're not ready to leave the software on the server and interact with it over the internet. Not until we've all got giant pipes to our houses. The great "In My Humble Opinion" disclaimer applies, of course.

Want my opinion? OK, you didn't ask for it, but I'm going to give it anyway.

You are right, Firefox won't win. They can't. In the end, there is no killer reason for people so switch, so they won't.

Now, when Google brings out a browser (and they will) they have a shot at it. They have brand love and loyalty, and people will download it just because it's there, just like the millions that are using the Google toolbar. All the bloggers, searchers, and gmail users will want it. And that's quite a market share.

As for getting of thick client, nope, nope, nope. In fact, I don't care how fat the pipe is to my laptop I want my software on my machine and I am unwilling to sacrifice any performance. And no matter what, if the software is not on your machine, there will be performance lags somewhere. Plus, users have not, and likely will not, buy into the monthly payment idea for software. People want to own things, not rent them. But yes, we will see more successfull thin client applications, but no thin client is ever going to beat MS Office.

But that's just what I think. I'm not a highly paid technological evangalist, so what do I know?
